What Do You Do All Day?

So this is my first attempt to join the Fatherhood Friday party over at Dad Blogs. I found this the other day and thought you all would like it. I new from a very early stage that this was not an acceptable question.

What Do You Do All Day?

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.

Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rugwas wadded against one wall.In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a Cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.

As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went.He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?'

She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world do I do all day?''Yes,' was his incredulous reply. She answered, 'Well, today I didn't do it.'

Guys, if I have one piece of advice for you as you start the SAHM journey, it's this: NEVER ask what your SAHM does all day!

  1. BWAHAHAHAHAHA, as a SAHD this totally rocks. LOL. I don't know who has it harder, the parents who get up and go to work, or the ones who don't.

  5. I'm with Jason, as a SAHD this applies too. I mean, I don't think my wife would ask that question, and if she did this seems like an appropriate response.

  6. Good stuff. When my wife gets home she can gauge how well our has gone just by looking at the kitchen table. Its the first thing one sees coming in thru our back door. If it is a mess, cluttered with mail and bibs, then she knows little man was being difficult. The only room that I don't obsess about during the day is the living room. His toys come out in the morning and go back at night. Other than that I work hard to keep this place clean and clutter free, if for nothing else than my own sanity.

  7. Ha ha, it's very true. I have even found that dropping hints like "Hey do you think you can unload the dishwasher today?" can meet with nuclear bomb level anger. . .

  8. I may think it sometimes but I am smart enough to never say that. I make up for it with plenty of other idiotic comments though.

  9. This is too funny.

I work from home a few days a week and have the kids home with me. Before my wife comes home from work, I pick everything up and get dinner ready. She comes home and if ONE little thing is on the floor, she plays the "what did you do all day?" card on me. Maybe I need to try this next time! ;)
